Breaking: It Has Been Confirmed Recently That 2026 WAEC Is To Be Computer.

WAEC Confirms 2026 WASSCE Will Be Computer-Based. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confirmed that the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will be conducted exclusively as a computer-based test, reaffirming its dedication to modernizing assessments nationwide.

Amos Dangut, the head of WAEC's Nigeria National Office, shared this information with reporters following the 63rd Nigeria National Council meeting in Umuahia, Abia State. Binta Abdulkadir, chair of the WAEC Nigeria National Committee, had previously announced that the council would begin conducting the computer-based WASSCE starting in 2027.

In his media briefing, Dangut stressed that only official communications, rather than media speculation, could alter the council's plans for implementing the computer-based WASSCE as previously stated.

“We are currently aware of discussions in the National Assembly, but we have not received any formal communication regarding this matter,” he said. “WAEC operates as a structured organization and acts solely on official directives. Once we receive any formal instructions, we will evaluate them and make decisions that best support learning and sustainable human development.”

He also assured that the pilot testing of the computer-based WASSCE in 2026 will proceed as scheduled, emphasizing that there is no plan to suspend this examination model.
