Army Thwarts Bandit Attack, Rescues Kidnapped Victims in Kogi.

The 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Lokoja, Kogi, has reported that its troops successfully thwarted an ambush by bandits and rescued kidnapped individuals near Oshokoshoko and Obajana in the Lokoja Local Government Area.

Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 12 Brigade, shared this information with reporters in Lokoja on Wednesday.

He explained that the operation took place in the early hours of Tuesday, following intelligence about the bandits' movements in the area.

"On November 25, 2025, based on credible information regarding the movement of bandits along the Oshokoshoko-Obajana route with abducted victims, troops stationed at the Kabba Patrol Base, in collaboration with other hybrid forces, conducted a special ambush operation to intercept the criminals.

The troops lay in wait and engaged the armed bandits, who were accompanied by an unknown number of fighters.

The bandits opened fire but were met with superior firepower from the troops, causing them to retreat in disarray. During the confrontation, one bandit was neutralized, while others escaped with varying degrees of gunshot wounds," the statement noted.

The Army spokesperson further indicated that the operation resulted in the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and the rescue of one kidnapped victim.

He added, "The rescued individual, who appeared weak and distressed, was promptly taken to a medical facility for further care. Ongoing operations are being conducted to pursue and track down the fleeing members of the criminal group."

The Army urged residents to continue trusting the ongoing operations and to assist security agencies by providing valuable information that could enhance timely responses and strengthen the collective fight against crime.
