Breaking: Some Corps Members Have Passed Away Due To An Accident

Gombe State Government rejected a viral social media post alleging that 16 National Youth Service Corps members traveling to the state had died in a road crash involving an NYSC-branded bus. Yusuf Danbayo, the Senior Special Assistant on Security Matters and Intergovernmental Affairs to Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, labeled the report as “false, misleading, and designed to incite unnecessary panic” in a public statement shared with our correspondent.

He stated that no road accidents involving corps members had been reported to the Nigeria Police Force or any relevant agency in the past 12 hours, contradicting the claims circulating on social media. “There have been no accidents involving NYSC corps members reported to the Nigeria Police Force or any related agency,” Danbayo emphasized.

He pointed out that in Nigeria, any significant incident must be formally reported to the nearest police station, and no such report exists. He also questioned the validity of the viral claims, asking for evidence to support them.

“Which hospital is supposedly holding the 16 bodies? Which medical facility has recorded this incident? No hospital has any such report,” he remarked. The SSA further noted that a nationwide inquiry with Motor Traffic Departments (MTDs) across all 774 local government areas found no records of any such accident.
