Just-In: DSS Has Presecuted The Accused Mastermind Of Attacking Church.
On Thursday in Abuja, the Department of State Services (DSS) charged Abdulmalik Abdulazeez Obadaki, the suspected mastermind behind the 2012 attack on the Deeper Life Bible Church in Okene, Kogi State. This occurred just two days after the sentencing of Hussaini Ismaila, a leader of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), to 20 years in prison for terrorism.
Obadaki faces six charges in a Federal High Court, including membership in a terrorist organization, conspiracy, aiding acts of terrorism, concealing information about a terrorist group's activities, and escaping lawful custody. He admitted guilt to the sixth charge, which pertains to escaping lawful custody, but pleaded not guilty to the other five charges.
After Obadaki's plea, the presiding judge, Justice Joyce Obehi Abdulmalik, postponed the case to January 26, 2026, to allow the court to review the facts related to the charge he admitted to and to hear the charges he denied. The court ordered that he remain in the custody of the secret police until the next hearing.
