Just-In: "Eradication Of Insecurity Is The Main Concern Of Nigerian Government" Said Kashim Shettima.

Security And Climate Issues Are At The Forefront As Shettima Outlines Nigeria's Stance.

There are strong indications that Nigeria's ongoing security challenges and economic difficulties will be key topics as Vice President Kashim Shettima presents the country's position at the G20 Summit. BusinessDay has learned that Shettima, who arrived in South Africa on Friday evening, is set to engage with foreign leaders and development partners on matters related to the economy, security, climate change, and more.

Additionally, he will participate in high-level diplomatic discussions aimed at accurately portraying the current security situation in Nigeria. The G20 Summit offers a significant opportunity for Nigeria to persuade global leaders of the necessity to collaborate with the country in addressing security threats from ISWAP, Boko Haram, and other terrorist organizations causing turmoil nationwide.

This summit occurs against the backdrop of Nigeria being labeled a "Country of Particular Concern" by U.S. President Donald Trump, amid ongoing discussions regarding alleged attacks on Christians in Nigeria. However, the Nigerian government has rejected this designation.

Representing President Bola Tinubu, the Vice President has been tasked with using this opportunity to communicate Nigeria's true position to the international community as part of efforts to combat terrorism. The Nigerian government has also reaffirmed its commitment to directly addressing security challenges while seeking global support and partnerships to stop the violence against innocent citizens.

President Tinubu, who was originally scheduled to attend the summit, opted at the last minute to remain in Nigeria to personally oversee the response to recent security threats and efforts to rescue the 24 schoolgirls abducted in the Manga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Vice President Shettima is accompanied in these high-level global discussions by Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
