Justi-In: High Court Of Nigeria Is To Sentence Namafi Kanu.
The Federal High Court in Abuja is scheduled to announce its decision in Nnamdi Kanu's terrorism trial today, with the proceedings being broadcast live to the public.
The court registrar informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that television crews from NTA, Channels TV, AIT, TVC, and other media organizations are already present in the courtroom, prepared to transmit the ruling.
Justice James Omotosho set the date for the verdict on November 7 after Kanu's defense was closed. The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) declined to present a defense, arguing that the charges were based on outdated terrorism laws.
The judge explained that Kanu had exhausted the six days allotted for his defense, effectively forfeiting his right to present one. Justice Omotosho noted that he would have granted more time if Kanu had chosen to proceed, emphasizing that his failure to act does not equate to a denial of his constitutional right to a fair hearing.
At the time of this report, the court had not yet begun proceedings. The live broadcast is anticipated to attract significant attention due to the case's importance and its possible implications for national security and political stability.
