What Everyone Talks About: "The Hause Of Reps Should Be Closed For Eliminating Insecurity" Ado Doguwa Said.
Ado Doguwa Calls for State of Emergency and Closure of House of Representatives Amid Rising Insecurity
Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, the representative for the Doguwa/Tudun Wada federal constituency in Kano, has urged for the immediate closure of the House of Representatives due to the ongoing violence and kidnappings plaguing the nation. During a special session on insecurity held on Tuesday, he called for urgent action.
“The country is engulfed in bloodshed and sorrow. Farmers are unable to access their fields, traders cannot visit markets, and worshippers are afraid to attend mosques and churches. So, what are we doing here? What laws are we enacting?” he questioned. “If the government is unwilling to ensure the safety of its citizens, I urge you to take the ultimate step: shut it down, declare a state of emergency on legislative matters, and wait for the government to take the necessary actions.”
Ado-Doguwa emphasized that while the federal government has constitutional authority to ensure the safety of lives and property, state governments must also be held accountable for the security of their citizens.
He stated, “The responsibility for security, according to constitutional provisions, lies solely with the federal government. However, subnational governments are also accountable and must take responsibility for the safety of their people.”
He further characterized the ongoing killings and abductions as a deliberate effort to undermine the Nigerian state and disrupt its political processes, asserting that this issue transcends religion, ethnicity, and political affiliation.
“I can assure you that in nearly all our constituencies, people can recount their experiences. This crisis is neither religious nor political; it does not align with any party or tribe. It is a calculated effort to weaken the Nigerian state,” Ado-Doguwa explained.
